Fox Owners Beginners Guide: Potty Training

Part 1 of the Pet Fox Owners Beginners Guide. In this video series I will elaborate on how I taught Djinn to be a happy and loving pet fox.

Every day videos are posted about cute looking foxes. However, many of these foxes are being sold once they’re older, destructive and no longer cute playful kits. Foxes are very destructive and territorial wild animals. They can be tamed, if given ALL your time and expertise about exotic animals. I would like to contribute to your expertise with these videos.

Part 1: Potty Training.
When you think foxes will go on the litter box by themselves, you are wrong… Foxes pee on your carpet, wooden windowsills, microwave, computer, bed, couch and printer. During playtime, poop will come flying out.
TRYING to potty train your fox, won’t work. To accomplish around a 80% to 100% potty trained fox, will be a day and night commitment. Foxes learn very well by repetition, so using the litter box must become a repetition. It can only become that if you put your fox on the litter box every time he probably needs to go. This means watching your fox’ every move to see if he must use the litter box.

Don’t get angry at the fox if it still doesn’t want to use the litter box. Use positive reinforcement when he does use it, have patience, and be consistent. Don’t forget that fox kits are easy to learn these kind of tricks, but when older they tend to do just as they themselves wish. If you want a pet fox, keep in mind that he may never be potty trained and will pee and poop on your expensive belongings. If you really don’t want strong fox urine on your couch, then consider not owning a fox.

Next video will be about teaching your fox to play without biting you. After that I will show more about: using the harness, walking on the leash, food aggression, socializing, and sitting on his bed for petting.
